Observation details
This one was challenging to get an accurate count of. Around 2/3 of the way down, we heard, then saw an osprey high up in the air vocalizing incessantly as it flew over the area in huge circles with a fish in its talons.... at one point when it flew lower toward the coastline, we saw a second osprey flying north over the trees seeming to be making its way to meet the one with the fish. However, the osprey with the fish continued its incessant calling and flew back up in the air away from the shoreline and over the mountain area, making a couple more circles high up in the air until it seemed to go down closer to the nest site. Once we were down to the bottom of the hill, I checked the nest, which up to this point, (each time I checked earlier today) seemed empty. There were three osprey in it. My daughter had a look via my binos, also confirming 3...when I had one last look before we left, I saw two flapping their wings, one left and the one remaining continued to flap its wings but did not fly, I think the third had settled down into the nest as it wasn’t as visible. Definitely 3.
