Observation details
***First eBird record of this hybrid pair. After consulting with Marshall Iliff and a number of others, we landed on this hybrid taxa as the best option for this individual. Comments from the day of observation are below: **Rare. Insane, Chris and Nathan both heard the textbook Northern Parula “ziiiiip” song, and Nathan then quickly located the bird in a dead pine. Shooting a burst of photos, the bird then flew out and strongly up-creek (to the north), never to be seen or heard from again. Photos revealed a very perplexing warbler, with Parula traits, but also strong auricular patches, large white eye-arcs, and a bluish back. Not even sure it’s a Parula X Cerulean, but putting it down as such until we figure it out. A crazy record, whatever it is…
