Observation details
Large numbers of several common species due to traveling long distance (9.7 miles one-way: entrance, K-Lynn, Ruby Wash, Salt Lick, Sinking Sun, and Rising Sun trails sequentially) through excellent habitat during peak time of morning. Western Meadowlarks were essentially always present throughout Primarily observed by sound: beautiful, liquid, whistled notes in a descending pattern (song, example attached with an individual singing at beginning and end), and a single clucked chip note almost reminiscent of Red-winged Blackbird or Hermit Thrush. I took care not to double-count individuals when passing through similar parts of the open space multiple times (e.g., winding back through the same field).
