Male that was near us is heard twice and loudest. You can hear the call from the female in the distance once before the males second call.
Observation details
8am Started a checklist a few minutes ago as birds were numerous and busy this morning. The wife and I were out front when this little guy came out from under our pine tree. Never seen anything like this around here before. Did some research and determined its a domesticated version of the Northern Bobwhite Quail. An escapee most likely. I have been hearing their call around lately and it would never register on the Merlin app. Now I know. The bird then went under our fence line and has been hanging in the back yard for a bit with the other birds. Looks happy to have found a safe space for now. Researched info. The Snowflake Bobwhite Quail are a special and rare color variant of the Bobwhite Quail, originated from the Mexican Speckled Bobwhite Quail Update. 10am. A second one to our surprise also turned up and this time was a female. By this time, we had safely caught them both as I read they would not be safe where they currently were. We had an old bird cage and I then found a respected birder who raises quail, so he was surprised by our rare find. While the male was walking the fence line, I literally saw a local Ferrell cat stalking it on the other side of the fence through the slits. This male and female pair will be going to a better, safer place and be with others of its kind. Bird win today.
