Observation details
*Long-staying first summer bird in quite unusual habitat, especially in summer. Banded and sporting an antenna; tagged by Dr Dick Veit on Nantucket Island in February of this year, and just so happened to end up in Dr Veit’s hometown in the coming months, where it remains. Characteristically aggressive towards the surrounding herring gulls, chasing them around and making territorial vocalizations. First on the platform, then relocated to the marsh island where it bedded down with some geese and took a short nap. Before I left, it flew up to the top of a nearby telephone pole and claimed it from a herring gull. Photos (and audio!)
