Observation details
Continuing bird. Remarkable find by Derek Lecy on 6/17/23. I was searching around the radio towers for about an hour when it suddenly sang quite close to me for about 30 seconds. I finally saw the bird on the ground feeding about fifteen minutes later on the south side of the towers. Bob Toleno arrived and about 45 minutes later we heard it singing on the north side of the road and eventually Bob also got good looks. Medium sized sparrow with rufous crown and post-ocular stripe, rest of face gray, fairly small bill with dark upper mandible and dull yellow lower mandible, back streaky black and rusty, fairly bold white wing bars. Some buffy coloration on flanks. Perched on the fence around the towers briefly showing dark central spot on the breast. Photos and audio attached.
