Observation details
I followed up on an eBird alert report I received a few hours earlier before I arrived at the site. Once I stepped out of my car I immediately heard it calling/singing to the east. I cautiously, and briefly used the playback on my iPhone to bring it closer for visual confirmation and saw it briefly as it moved about in the bushes 30 feet near me. I do realize it might already be nesting in this area, if it has a mate, so I did use extra caution using this playback. It didn’t sit still that long and kept moving around before disappearing deeper into the bushes around the parking lot, so I wasn't able to get any photos of it. However, I did get a few audios of it singing/calling that I’ll include with this report. In size it was maybe a little smaller than a N. Cardinal. I easily saw the bright yellow chest and throat area and the whitish belly. The white “spectacles” were seen, as well as the black lores were also seen. The habitat here is really nice for a chat to set up territory, so I’m thinking it might have been here awhile and might stay around for the rest of the summer as well.
