Adult! Photos coming. Patience paid off, and this adult popped up into the reeds right next to me as I was sitting quietly on the metal bridge. Small heron with striking plumage. Black cap and back with bright rufous coloring on back of neck merging to lighter buff on front with white broken lines down the throat. Very happy to have finally gotten a good look!
