Observation details
The first bird we saw as soon as we arrived. It was soaring high and my pics aren't great, but it looks like an immature molting to adult plumage. The central tail feathers show thick black and white bands, as do the emerging lateral tail feathers. Black edging can be seen on the outer parts of the wings. The bird has a pale throat and the breast and underwings are also generally pale, with some mottling on the breast. For each pic, I upload the original shot (above) and a lighter version underneath. I was uncertain between Red-shouldered and Broad-winged, but the wingtips clearly show four, not five, feathers, confirming the ID as Broad-winged Hawk.
