Observation details
Very probable that we found a nesting location. Two WEWAs were in close proximity to each other, one singing repeatedly and the other foraging. They became agitated as we stopped along the trail to look around and the non-singer began chipping loudly (*) and flew toward us. As we backed away, the chipping stopped and the bird went back to foraging. Such a fun observation. *We opened the Merlin app to see if it would recognize a chipping WEWA. It gave no possibles for about 20 seconds, then repeatedly identified the chips as coming from an American redstart. There were no redstarts in the area that we could identify, and again, Merlin only lit up for an AMRE on the chips that we could see were coming from the WEWA.
