Observation details
Singing male along stream at about the 0.3 mile mark (34.46650° N, 119.73237° W) of Jesusita Trail and briefly seen on the hillside just upslope (south) of the stream. Audio recorded. A small active warbler I saw only briefly. I saw white below and blue above with white and black neatly separated in the undertail. Most apparent were the clean white eye arcs against the blue face, the yellow throat, and yellow breast with orange in the center. This was all seen in flashes as the bird foraged above me in brush so I missed finer details like the black breast band I’d say. I’ve driven through this area (N Ontare rd inside Rancho San Roque) four of the past five weeks, 4-5 days each week without encountering this species. I never linger long here as I’m in route to work further up the drainage but I have my windows down listening to bird song.
