Observation details
Unmistakable in identification, as this is the most sought after bird in N India. Early morning, while going to nearby stream to wash face, I happened to have a complete look at the bird, a male one, went uphill quickly to get away from me and then disappearing in the conifer trees. I was thrilled and my heart started beating very fast (same happened when I saw a Monal first time), but was in a position of shock and disappointment too, as being casually out for washing hands and face, I didn't carry my camera along (which I mostly don't carry because I being too lazy). The Western Tragopan has been reported in the area before also, by the locals and tribals. This is also the area where it is being regularly poached for meat and sport. Attaching some pictures of a dead specimen, clicked from the same region.
