Media notes
A Thick-billed Kingbird calls, first from the wires, then from the top of the the big Arizona Sycamore in which the kingbirds have nested in past years. No sign of its mate—or any other kingbirds. Background includes: White-winged Dove, Gambel’s Quail, House Finch, Bell’s Vireo, Brown-crested Flycatcher, Mourning Dove, Lucy’s Warbler. Recorded using a Fostex FR-2LE with a Sennheiser ME62 & Telinga Universal 22" parabola.
Observation details
I saw only one TBKI in the area where they have nested in past years--and possibly this year as well. (I was gone most of May and haven't learned whether they've nested this year.) The one bird I saw sat atop the wires or the big Arizona Sycamore and called somewhat unenthusiastically. Recording attached.
