Observation details
Single male specimen (non-breeding colors) diving and feeding near the shoreline of the lake. I observed him flying multiple times, so he was not injured or grounded. I did make a positive identification and obtained several close up photographs and a video. This individual seems to be socializing with the population of mixed domestic ducks that are resident at the lake. While not as tame as the domestics, he has become quite tame relative to other hoodies that visit the lake during winter, often coming within 30-40 ft of people while swimming, fishing, and preening on the shoreline. I have seen this individual at the lake on the date of this checklist, as well as again on June 9 (no checklist submitted). He exhibits socialization with these domestic ducks every time I see him.
