Observation details
Heard singing classic “bee-buzz” song and seen well. Initially it was here: (35.8520102, -106.3584565) at 10:30am and I also encountered it on my way back down at 11:30am a bit farther up the trail here: (35.8521491, -106.3600340). It was quite responsive to pishing. A beautiful adult male. Bright yellow below and through the head, fading to greenish on the back. Bluish-gray wings and upper tail. Characteristic black eye line. Two muted white wing bars. No hint of yellow in the wings. White outer tail feathers were particularly evident when the bird flew. NM State bird for MJA.
