Observation details
No rest for the Horned Owl. It's quite common to hear the crows mobbing an owl or another bird of prey during walks in this area. Usually, I assume it's an owl, but today I decided to venture off the trail and into the woods to confirm. After about 30 yards, I spotted a Great Horned Owl (GHO) relatively low to the ground, with three crows swooping around it and causing a loud commotion. GHOs have been present in this area for at least seven years. Last year, there was a pair, but this spring, I have only encountered one during each sighting.
