Observation details
heard a duck calling from the area of the creek south of the bridge. then saw a duck of the right coloring, size and shape fly out of that area of the creek and away, towards the south southeast.. after 10 minutes, a duck flew back from the southeast, took a wide swing around the field, and landed in the creek, near where I had heard the first calls. (not visible to me) I walked the path, hearing the duck call every few minutes, and was able to get a look at it. It then walked (the creek is very shallow in places) towards me, and re-entered the water closer to me where I took many pictures. eventually, the duck proceeded further downstream (south) and was again out of sight and still calling. after another 5 to 10 minutes, the duck flew back out of creek and towards the south southeast. the duck showed the key features described by others. black gape, yellow-ish bill with a black tip/nail. Darker than a female malard, particularly the chest, the face has lighter sides, clear dark eye line, dark top of head from the top of the bill. Tail feathers flat (no curl). will post pictures (and recording of the calls, if they came out.)
