Observation details
Strikingly different plumage than either Mourning Dove or Eurasian Collared-Dove! Saw what appeared to be a Eurasian Collared-Dove on the road. Noticed what appeared to be a juvenile Mourning Dove on a fence post near it. Suddenly the Eurasian flew to the smaller dove on the post. Noticed the larger more Eurasian dove acted familiar with the smaller dove, facing it, reaching its beak out to it and they were very comfortable with each other. Surrounding the little dove's eyes was the distinctive blue that Mourning Doves always have. Yet a black line, albeit less dark than the Eurasian's, was on its neck! No spots were on the more mourning dove-looking dove either! Since the scalloped looking feathers were missing on the littler mourning dove-looking one it isn't a juvenile mourning dove. Seems to be an adult hybrid or juvenile hybrid. Edited: Zenaida macrouras also usually have a black cheek mark and pointed tails which aren't apparent on the smaller dove which has no black mark and a squared tail! Edited: The dove in the foreground can't be a juvenile Eurasian collared also because its legs are pinkish-red and juvenile Eurasian collared-dove are grayish brown.
