Observation details
*Rare. All 1st summers. At least this many for this leg (we encountered 6+ total for the trip). All differentiated based on degree of wing/retrix molt. Pale heads with thin dark masks. Dark upperparts, whitish underparts. Long outer rectrices (most asymmetrical due to heavy molt). Larger and longer-winged than Black Terns. Stiff-winged flight. Not necessarily unexpected off-shore of Texas in the Gulf, but highly pelagic. Few reports in Galveston Co. due to the scarcity of observers surveying Galveston waters.
