Media notes
Although Merlin identified this as a King Rail it is atypical and others have suggested a female Clapper Rail.
Observation details
Spasmodic calling. Seemed distinct from Clapper Rail but both species called together from the same area at one point. Picked up as KIRA by the Merlin app (and initially uploaded by me as such) but this may not be correct. Changed from KIRA to KIRA/CLRA based on discussions with Regional Reviewer Sandra Keller and additional input from Michael O'Brien who suggested a female KIRA/CLRA, either pure or hybrid. Is this the bird others have been reporting recently as KIRA? Unfortunately, without specifics on the location of those claims or similar recordings, it is hard to know.
