Observation details
I heard a what sounded like a flycatcher vocalizing repeatedly. It gave a relatively loud "Beeeerrrrrrr" that trails off at the end. Merlin repeatedly identified the bird as a Say's Phoebe. Using that information as a starting point, I then played the Say's Phoebe call from the Cornell website and it seemed to match what I was hearing. I looked for it perched on fence posts or shrubs but wasn't able to spot it, as it sounded like it was calling from across the open field. However, I was able to obtain several recordings. In May 2023, I processed the audio (trimming and normalizing using Audacity). I uploaded the recordings to BirdNet, which indicated Say's Phoebe. I noticed that another bird was able to get photos of a Say's Phoebe at this location about a week and a half later, so I reported this bird as a Say's Phoebe. However, the reviewer said that this is not a Say's Phoebe so I will further research flycatcher calls and see if I can update the ID. It sounds familiar so perhaps was a vagrant kingbird or other flycatcher.
