Observation details
In the marsh and shrubby vegetation, it was a challenge to see this dark brown wading bird with dense white streaks and spots on the head and neck, and larger pale spots/streaks on its brown body. Its long slightly decurved dull yellowish bill was dark on top and at tip. Since apple snails are an important dietary item in its original habitat, what is it eating at Minesing? Other snails, insects and frogs? Great find by the Mandell family, then David Szmyr and Jay Solanki. Many thanks for the team work that got everybody to see it.
