Observation details

Responded to playback during official night hike up Tobe Canyon as part of the Preserve's migratory bird celebration event. Elevation around 7,060' in Ponderosa/Southwestern white pine forest with pinyon, oaks, and juniper. Tooting and alarm whistles. Higher pitched and more insistent than the Flammulated Owls we heard. Recordings made by me and several others. Tooting gets louder towards end of video clip (shot video to record the sound). Glimpsed owl once as it flew from high up in a pine to another pine top, but no real details on field marks other than it was relatively white underneath.
