Observation details
Canada lifer! Amazing find yesterday by Phil Henderson. Thanks so much to Mel and other birders who saw it yesterday and tried their best to help those of us who missed it by minutes, and for posting the new map pin on the rare bird alert today. Stunning bird, small raptor with a largely stark white body, sticking out greatly from any other raptors here. Piercing red eyes, and extremely hooked black beak with a yellow cere. Long grey wings with black shoulders when seen from behind perching or flying, showing black primaries and wrists and otherwise entirely white when seen from below, with one tail feather being significantly shorter than the rest. Yellow feet. Extremely long tail. Seen sporadically throughout my visit, on occasion hovering and hunting. Saw it dive into the farm field, presumably catching a vole and later seen with a full crop. Constantly being harassed by crows. Coming down once to perch on a snag near the creek, and otherwise flying west to perch on top of conifers near the houses on 264th. Photos to be attached
