Observation details
Found by local: Mark Whiteside. Got to watch it eat a brown anole, that was fun. I first saw it near the bird rehab cages, watched it slowly with its way towards the water, feeding from ground level to about head height off the ground. Last seen around: (24.5494294, -81.7836636) - started to vocalized then got chased off by a red-winged blackbird, but can still hear it calling. It’s somewhere near the pond. When Mark H. and I left. Black bird about size of grackle, thick, smooth bill, nice scaling pattern visible on wings and back, light iridescence visible on back in correct light. Will upload photo. Located at: 1801 White St, Key West, FL 33040, no entrance fee required but small donation to the Wild Bird Center encouraged. *Spoke to the volunteers, if you show up and the gate is locked, please call them and they’ll let you in! 305-292-1008*
