Song recorded from the bird by the tower shortly before I left.
Observation details
*Rare, though regular here in the spring, likely continuing from a few days ago; first found at the south end high in a leafed-out maple. 1st spring male; mostly red with yellowish sides and wings. Watched it for about ten minutes around the meadow at the southwest corner. Later re-found it at the tower when it called, and subsequently began singing. EDIT: photos reveal I saw two different male tanagers. One with slightly more red than the other. Bird #1 with more red was the bird I first saw in the maple and an adjacent tree. Bird #2 swooped down in front of me as I was leaving that area and we followed each other down into the southwest meadow. I'm not sure which of these I later found at the tower. Maybe others have photos.
