Observation details
Attached 3 photos which show that there are 2 Virginia Rails together. A breeding pair !? I was in the right place at the right time, I heard the grunting call and with patience I was able to observe these little ones and get photos - lucky that they were at the edge of the reeds, on the trail side rather than the Kitchell Pond side, so I was able to stay on the trail the whole time. The 2nd photo shows the 2 distinct beaks. The 3rd photo shows the 2nd bird's eye on the far right (these photos are not edited at all). The 1st photo shows what I was thinking was mutual grooming (???). The beak is coming from the bird on the right, apparently touching the side of the left bird's neck. Last photo also shows the 2 beaks very close together - some more grooming?
