Observation details
Absolute MEGA find by Peter Kyle and Jim Crites. I don’t even know where to begin with this WILD day. I was at Big Bend National Park when I happen to get service and got word that a Slate-throated Redstart was being reported in Lubbock. For those who don’t know, this is the wild. I have seen these birds in Guatemala. That’s how wild it is. I drive straight through to Lubbock which is about 6 hours, only stoped for gas once which took about 3 minutes. I pull into Lake 6 at 7:20pm and my absolute unit of a friend Tucker was already there to help me get on the bird tonight. Of course it is windy as ALL get out. So windy. Tucker eventually saw it for 2 seconds and then I eventually found it on my side of the river. Bright red underparts with slate colored back, crimson cap, and white edges to retrices. I really can’t get over this bird being in Lubbock and I’m so thankful against ALL odds I got on it today! Lubbock County #308
