Observation details
Two Mourning Doves taking off with a lot of noise made me look out the window in time to see an accipiter just visible over some low evergreens. I tried a photo as it took off but got nothing but a blurred bit of its tail. I followed it with my eyes to a nearby tree and then realized there were two accipiters, not one. "My" bird had Mourning Dove feathers in its talons but the other bird took off with the dove itself. I called Bernie and we watched the dove-less hawk for ten minutes before it also flew away.
