Observation details
Observed flickers on several occasions. Saw 2 perched on the wooden nest box on the tall post along the north boundary of the property; they flew away when a EUST landed. On my return, I heard and saw more flicker activity below the diversion dam. For several minutes, I watched a female in the vicinity of a hole in a fencepost. At first, she was perched outside, and I heard her making a "kekeke" call. She then went fully into the hole and repeatedly poked her head back out, repeating this head-in, head-out behavior probably 20 or more times while I watched. She seemed to be excavating, but I was approx. 60-70 m away and was not able to see wood/sawdust in her bill when she poked her head out. After this, I saw her emerge fully from the cavity, perch directly below it and call "kekeke" once more, and then go back inside and do more apparent excavating behavior.
