Observation details
Saw several birds flying upstream on at least 2 occasions. Possibly more birds, as I saw other blackbirds doing the same thing and was not able to definitively ID them. One male was singing for several minutes, perched in a dead shrub along the creek, about 60 m below the existing cross-fence. At the same time, I saw 2 birds of blackbird-size that may have been distant female RWBL perched near the top of a shrub farther upstream. They seemed to have the dense, dark brown streaking of female RWBL, but they flew before I could get a picture or get closer. In researching RWBL now, I am surprised to learn that they are known to breed in a variety of open upland habitats; this site could definitely be breeding habitat.
