Observation details
Saw sparrow with unstreaked underside and rufous cap fly into shrubby growth at the edge of the creek. My first thought was CHSP, but obvious dark gray central dot on light gray breast conflicted. Very high, clear, "seet" calls, with a piercing quality. Luckily, the bird stayed around for some pictures, flitting through streamside shrubs and apparently foraging, for ca 30 seconds, among grasses at the water's edge. In pictures, two-toned bill, dark eyeline not extending through lores, and subdued facial patterning, compared to white supercilium and malar of CHSP, are obvious. Surprised to see this bird so late! It was in the vicinity of a flock of WCSP - perhaps migrating with them? NOTE: Review of this record and metadata of associated photos on 11 May 2018 reveals that photos were taken between 0833 and 0836. Though I did not make note of the location, metadata from other photos with known location reveals that this bird was seen while I was on my way upstream, between the current vicinity of the constructed wetland (where I photographed a large WCSP flock in a Chokecherry thicket S of the stream at 0809-0810) and the raised hill area (where I photographed a male RWBL singing from a dead shrub, 60 m below the cross-fence, at 0900). Georeferenced location, as of 11 May 2018, with 235 m locational uncertainty: 46.64393, -112.10781.
