Observation details
I saw a Western Kingbird diving and landing close to what looked like a bird on the ground. It was hard to say if it attacked it. As I got closer I saw that it was the previously reported female Mountain Bluebird. It was still alive but breathing hard and appeared to be in bad condition. She did flush and managed to fly about a few feet out but only a couple of feet above the ground. The wings seemed to be in good condition but the bluebird could not stand up and fell over on its side. I later located her in about the same area in the center of the pecan and cottonwood grove and she was in the same condition though she managed to fly a little better and a little further. She is a small grayish bluebird with light blue wingtips and top of tail.
