Observation details
Recorded. Eating mixed bird seed, and also red maple flower buds, and also “natural” seeds (from planted trees) on floor in CG. — — recorded 1 beginning at 7:20a from inside CG . — — 7:25a 2 EVGR flew over state line road from oregon to California, one of each type, and one landed in ~ red flowering maple in yard (41.99301, -120.32179). Then, a couple more t1 calling. — — 3 in driveway road to “Gem Show Today Rocks Red Gate” (41.99306, -120.32115) with lots of sparrows and blackbirds in road too. Apparently picking at rock grit? or foraging among rock road. Two of these female calling are t1 . — — find a flock of a dozen at the red gate house, Don Jacobs (he Airbnbs this place too), he spreads out a mix wild bird seed onto the driveway, and blackbirds and EVGR were foraging on the ground before EVGR went up into the red flowering maple (Don confirms maple), where one seen chewing 10-min later, presumably eating red maple flower. This flock of 12 mostly t2. He said the EVGR have been here a month, and 2-weeks ago he had 200 of them here. They eat the seed he puts out, which is a mix and contains sunflower seed. Don says I am welcome any time, and a lot of birders know him bc he ID’d a COGR here in past. — 7:56a 2 more t2 fly in joining others some of whom eating seed again w blackbirds and starlings and quail. — — 8:30a half dozen in CG foraging on gravel road w 100-150 AMRO. (41.99385, -120.32175). They are chewing and eating. Looks like seeds. Took photo of the tree they were under, for iNat, as likely seeds from that tree. (Tree at site 30 post). Seeds are fairly large prob almost size of pumpkin seed, that I saw them eating. 6 more EVGR join them, mostly t2. When the flock from ground flushes as I photo the tree, they are mostly t2. Then see them foraging elsewhere in road, then collecting on road foraging under a ponderosa pine. — photo a bush (at site 1 post) where saw one eat a dry reddish berry! Not many berries left on it. — — 8:45a they flush away when blustery windy snow blows in. — by 9a they are back foraging under the tree at site post 30. One t2 sitting calling inside a tree w robins I photoed . Can’t see it. Dry leaves on tree. Some new buds on tips. — — (note: Don’s house is technically in California, however I didn’t get any new species or numbers on this checklist by looking at his driveway just to get better recordings and views of the EVGR there that were also heard and seen distant from Oregon before walking into CA).
