Observation details
Flycatching at the NW corner of the pond in the large conifer next to the nest box, the big isolated tree. In the field, distinctly not yellow, with no tinge of yellow around the face, but a yellow tinge on the lower belly as with many empid species. Initially silent. Distinct whitish wingbars with long tailed appearance and impression of crest towards rear of head. Eye ring was indistinct and typically not visible, could not make out a crescent towards the back of the eye as I expect for PSFL. Bill was rather long and narrow, compared to PSFL, and was yellow bellow with a dusky tip. Bobbing tail down, like a phoebe or GRFL, but perhaps a bit more rapid than GRFL and more like I sometimes see from DUFL. However, difficult to get an unobstructed view. Gave the impression of a grey empid. Eventually started giving a few very dry whit calls, not immediately clear to me what species is most similar, but unlike PSFL calls that I am familiar with. Tried in vane to get a recording, included here in the background of a loud HOFI. Soon flew to willows and lost
