Media notes
2nd bird
Observation details
This pair stayed at this location for 1 month (2nd Apr - 29 Apr) presumably during its migration from southern Africa to northern Europe. One bird stayed almost exclusively in the depression in the jetty (which extended from the seawall and had very little movement of boats and none witnessed of people - access was limited by a gate at the entrance). The other was much more active and was seen attacking gulls and a Gray Heron (they learnt to give it a wide berth), flying in the area, perching on the sea wall lights and on the jetty surface (near the other). A pair was observed in May the previous year (2016) in exactly the same location for slightly less time. The birds had easy access to fish in the sailing port (there were plenty of 5 to 12 cm in the water nearby). The stay seems unexpected in this location and is therefore reported here.
