Observation details
Recorded. — 1 m seen perched up an aspen, calling, photo for iNat. (42.9741,-120.7782) . I can sometimes hear trills of a few other EVGR but only faintly and don’t see them. — then this m drops out of sight, but still calling, think he must have dropped down into willows/shorter thicket below the aspens. I saw 2 other passerines fly out of that thicket, so birds might be bathing or foraging inside of it? — cont. to hear calls , mostly trills, from inside that as of at least several EVGR, but by 3:45p silence and never get on better. — — note: 1-2 days ago Sevilla had recorded 25 EVGR here that were all or almost all Type 1. * . — — note: EVGR have declined 92% in 50 years, and very little is understood yet about them or why. Please consider helping EVGR research by adding recordings to your EVGR in ebird checklists. Also, add photos and notes of any foraging foods or interesting behavior. For more info see: FiRN’s website (Finch Research Network) incl info about recording EVGR types , (and they’ll have info soon too about how to participate in their foraging data project on iNaturalist) : https://finchnetwork.org/projects/the-evening-grosbeak-project You can also contact Matt Young (contact info on FiRN website) or Caleb Centanni ( caleb at centanni dot com) for any more questions or observations about EVGR or RECR. Thanks!
