Observation details
Singing near RR tracks and one in MVP cut near top of ridge. One in MVP cut first singing the Weeta-Weeta-WeTEEo song, then it or another singing an alternate song Merlin didn’t seem to register. I can’t describe that song but have seen the species singing it in previous years here. Couldn’t get him to come where I might get a video. Will search for a reference recording to cite here. Personal FOY. ADDENDUM: It was pointed out to me how similar this song is to the alternate song of the Chestnut-sided Warbler, but having listened to several examples from both species and compared spectrograms, I still believe the recording I’ve uploaded is that of a Hooded (starting at about 00:09.32, 00:24.96 and 00:37.43). Compare to recordings posted by Seth Buddy and Wil Hershberger in top eBird audio entries for this species as well as entries denoted as alternate song for the species on Xeno-Canto.
