Observation details
On top of the cottonwood that many species favor. Originally thought to be a flicker clinging to the top but then realized it was a small kestrel-like bird perched on one of the high tips of the tree. Observed for about a minute, staying idle during that time. In the photos brownish back, face markings and black tail with one visible thin white bar can all be seen. Could be the same one seen on 4/21/2017 from a different part of town. While I was watching a singing cowbird I heard cawing, turned back to the cottonwood and a crow was sitting up there and the MERL was nowhere to be seen. Photos are zoomed in and cropped.
