Observation details
***Uncommon and very high for lower Westchester. A truly shocking congregation of GWTE here, and personally stunning because of how close this location is to me. I first spotted a few at a distance feeding in the mouth of Pocantico River, but when I got closer, I realized there were *a lot* of ducks and all but two were GWTE! Many feeding in the lake, but plenty also going on to the mudflats to shovel around in the mud. Not sure if this is a typical location for this species, but a cursory check of winter checklists from this underbirded hotspot show that this is not the usual. Regardless, these birds put on an excellent show and gave amazing views!
