Observation details
Light tan on sides, black on back, neck and head. Colors of plumage features were difficult to determine because the bird had been diving or trying to dive. White breast. Sitting high on the water, it was swimming slowly, appearing to be sick or injured. At first sight, this bird appeared to be EAGR mostly because of what we thought was a fan-like yellow cheek patch. Ebird reviewer, J. McGowan said the light bill tip and, to his eye, more of an eyebrow than cheek of yellow pointed to HOGR.
