Observation details
Heard only, south side of trail about 0.4mi from trailhead, roughly around noon. Singing; arpeggio of 5 notes, repeated every 20-30 seconds. Performed this three times as I was approaching location; once I stopped and started recording, only performed song phrase once and then was quiet. Unable to locate bird in tree, it might have moved away after singing. Reporting this late because I was unsure this sounded quite like the Amakihi recordings in Merlin. After reviewing more recordings of both this species and the other reported species on this trail, I don't think this could have been anything else. Even the best mimic birds tend to vary their song phrases and ramble; this bird belted out four identical and well-spaced Amakihi phrases and then stopped singing.
