Observation details
*rare; two males foraging and singing at the edge of a wet impoundment on the final northbound stretch of the newly opened seasonal access road within the refuge's north loop. Coordinates here: 33.8090263, -106.8630373. The birds were mostly glossy black with remnant rusty brown feather edging on the back, nape, scapulars, flanks, and undertail coverts, as seen in photos. Yellow eye. Their classic squeaky gate song can be heard in this iPhone recording, despite the wind and other background sound.
