Observation details
Presumably the same bird found by Tom Fangrow back on March 17. We heard this bird calling several times shortly after 0800 from our location in the vicinity of 33.640640, 1117.577090. The distinctive nasal sounding"yenk-Yenk-yenk calls seemed to be coming from the northeast, beyond the tree topped hillside running parallel to the trail, possibly from the neighborhood around Summitcrest Drive. We have several recordings with an average of 5 notes occurring every 8 seconds in the recording. Despite out efforts to track the bird by sound, we were not able to get a visual- the neighborhood is gated and we could not gain access. After losing contact, we continued the search up and down the trail, but were not able to relocate the nuthatch. The following recording has three different bursts of the red breasted nuthatche's vocals at 4, 12 and 20 seconds but I need to trim it down to 3 segments to get rid of the other bird noise and have yet to figure out how to do it.
