Observation details
The owl flew low over the neighbour's 5 acre back yard, appearing and disappearing beyond buildlings until suddenly flying straight in to trees near my window and landing on an open branch, where it became identifiable. It was clutching a vole in its talons. It whipped its heard around, back and forth, as if concerned about something nearby, but no other birds or animals were around in the dying light of the evening and I was only observing from inside through the window. It began to tear at the vole until suddenly swallowing the remaining portion in one gulp. It kept it's "ear" tufts flat along its head the entire time it was eating. Once finished, it rested more quietly on the branch and eventually raised it's "ear" tufts to the more "ususal" position. At one point, it turned around on the branch and then turned it's head almost 180 degrees to look straight back. Several photos were taken through the window only. The door was open a crack during this time to listen, but the owl was not heard to vocalize. It was still there after my viewing session ended, but it was not present the following day.
