Observation details
(Rare filter 35): 30-60 or more in the parking lot willows. Best est is at least ~ 4 dozen, just in the willows closest to me at/near parking lot. Anywhere I stood in these blooming willows, surrounded by 12-24 hummers at any stationary point. Made recording demonstrating vocals. so many! I’ve never seen such a heavy concentration of them together before, though I’ve seen checklists of other people reporting in spring in oregon on s. coast like this or more. So so many! Chasing, displaying, poss flirting. Definitely here bc pollinating the flowering willow catkins. Some f seen. Many more m seen than f. All adult m that I saw well enough had orange backs. Very active at dusk. Wonderful! Photoed willows for iNat. Spent a long while with the hummers since high tide so no beach to walk. — — note: I returned tomorrow morning early, and hummers still here, though ~ not as many as tonight at dusk. Tomorrow I did a stationary count of prob at least 20 RUHU just as I stood at one spot. So prob at least 40 hummers tomorrow morning, meaning prob easily at least 60 hummers tonight since more tonight at dusk here. Willows in iNat : https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/152882714
