Brown Booby and Gannet - this image shows the clear differences in colour and size between the gannet (left) and booby (right).
Observation details
Observed fishing just offshore, in the company of an Australasian Gannet. Watched the bird for around 8 minutes. It was easily visible with naked eye and clear through binoculars. The bird was making shallow dives on fish. From a distance, with the naked eye, the bird was mainly dark chocolate/ brown. On close inspection through binoculars, I could see its pale white/pearl bill - this really stood out against the brown colouring - white underwings with brown edges, again noticeable when the bird turned and stooped; white/brown belly; and brown legs. Photos below. Taken with a point and shoot camera, and cropped.
