Observation details
Surprising find, a Pipit in the alakai swamp! Definite Pipit with bobbing tale, a light gray/tan/beige color. Broad cream colored supercilium and extensive white in outer recs. Buffy outlined coverts. Necklace of streaks on neck but none dark or heavily streaked. Of three pipits ever recorded, American is most likely. Not red-throated because no red-throughly or black streaks on chest. I don’t think green enough or streaky enough for Olive-backed. Pale American seems most likely of suspected choices. Only got iPhone videos and photos. Wish I’d had a camera on me. Hopefully someone else will get a diagnostic photo. I think this may be the first passerines vagrant in the main Hawaiian islands in well over a decade!
