Observation details
Absolutely a WTF moment!! Brant and I were sitting on the backyard patio watching all of the BBWD flocks fly over the house, going to spend thier evening at the Church Pond down the street. After that ruckus flew over, we heard something that sounded like a honking goose. Sure enough, there was a Snow Goose trailing the Whistling Ducks! Brant was able to get on it with his bins, and by this time it was pretty dark, so just a silhouette. But we were both certain that's what it was. I grabbed the car keys and a spotlight and we drove over to the Church Pond. I put the light on the group of resting whistlers, and there was the Snow Goose mixed in! Well, as you can imagine, the light created duck turmoil and they all took to the air. We waited to see if they would come back. A few did, and the goose was not among them. So, we drove a little further to Ogden Pond where we know Whistlers also tend to congregate. The grasses are taller there, making visibility tough. But when I put the light on where we heard the ducks calling, again, they took to the air. And again, there was the Snow Goose flying with them! I followed it with the light for a little while and it called several times. I had my phone on to record, but with the commotion of BBWD's it was tough to get an audio. I do have some, I believe. So, to make a long story great, there's a Snow Goose right down the road. And it flew over my house!!
