Observation details
One adult and one fledgling nearby. Local researcher skeptical of my fledgling sighting due to time of year, but bird was very obviously this species. Of interest was the fact that it looked much too young to fly and be out of the nest, but was seemingly at home on the ground. On my approach, it gave churring alarm calls and flapped wings while nimbly hopping away from me up the hill and rapidly disappearing. I consider this unusual observation of note in that if the young of Principe Thrush are regularly out of the nest earlier than other species (like Sao Tome Thrush) this factor (in combination with the typical tameness of most adult Principe Thrush) may shed some more light on the reasons behind their inability to cope with introduced predators. Sighting was approximately 1.2km north of the south-western beach at midday.
